David R. Boullier was a significant writer on these topics, as well as a useful source for calm and reasoned commentary on the state of philosophy in his day. His writings include some important discussions on miracles, on liberty, and on inertia. This chapter shows that the most significant of his writings was the treatise on moral certitude, added to the second edition of his Essai in response to a review of the first edition in the Journal littéraire.
