This chapter discusses the slow fade-out of John Wilkes as a politician during the last twenty years of his life. Most of his attention during this period was focused on work and leisure; his duties as City Chamberlain took up most of his time. The chapter looks at the different activities that Wilkes was preoccupied in, including his love for literature, until his death on December 29, 1797.
