The author describes the character of the Irish, most of whom are Roman Catholics, or followers of the religion of the Pope; only a small proportion are followers of the religion of the English, known as dissenters or philosophers (that is, deists or atheists). The author also notes the troublesome curiosity of the common people; the heavy fall of snow; the severe cold; and the advantages of the climate of Ireland. He also presents an account of his particular friends or patrons and the Irish's mode of living. He then leaves Dublin, passes England, and lands at Holyhead. He describes Wales and the city of Chester, and proceeds to London.
