The author presents an account of his voyage to the Nicobar Islands and describes their produce, inhabitants, etc. Several of the Lascars, or Indian sailors, desert the ship and hide in the woods, but are brought back by the natives. The author also narrates an infamous incident involving the captain; the ship's departure from the Islands; the group's encounter with trade winds; their passage through the longitudes of Mauritius and Madagascar; the author's sufferings; the coast of Africa; whales approaching the vessel; the Table Mountain of the Cape of Good Hope; a dreadful storm; and the ship's anchoring in False Bay.
