As a prelude to his arguments for congruence, Rawls argues that members of a well-ordered society would have four reasons to maintain their sense of justice. Those four reasons depend upon the presence of the four desires treated in Chapter IV. This chapter shows how Rawls argues from the presence of those desires to the reasons to be just. It concludes with a critique of those arguments.
