Known as the “Land of Opportunities,” the United States of America is also recognized as a relatively young land to which almost the entire population or its ancestors, barring the small numbers of remaining indigenous Native Americans, migrated within the last 500 years. This chapter presents an overview of recent immigration to the country with a focus on legislation, demographics, and immigration's social and economic implications.
