This chapter reviews some of the things that happened on the way to the imagined eventual demise of the positive psychology movement. It focuses first on what might well be the best predictor of the field of positive psychology's future: its recent past. It addresses the somewhat surprising relevance of positive psychology in a context that differs greatly from the one that existed at its inception. Second, it examines what happened to happiness and considers the future of happiness and unhappiness in positive psychology. Third, it reviews the ways that positive psychology has recreated the history of business-as-usual psychology, and engages in a bit of wishful thinking in this regard. The chapter concludes by offering some closing thoughts on the future of the field of positive psychology and its research agenda.
