This chapter describes Viotti's early years: his childhood in the village of Fontanetto Po, Piedmont, Italy, his patronage by the Prince Dal Pozzo della Cisterna in Turin, and his early training with the great exponent of the Piedmontese school of violin playing, Gaetano Pugnani.
