School personnel are challenged to enhance alliances between parents or guardians and school staff at a time when great emphasis is placed on students' academic and behavioral outcomes. A variety of studies suggest that parent or guardian involvement in schools, especially school—home communication, accounts for a 10% to 20% improvement in achievement. This chapter discusses steps in planning for parent participation in conferences.
