The active ingredients in repellents make a big difference, but formulation is also important. Inert ingredients influence application characteristics, duration, and absorption. The formulation can be as simple as an alcohol solution or it can take advantage of some of the best science that the cosmetic industry has to offer. Formulation influences price as well as effectiveness and safety. Choosing the right formulation depends a great deal on how a person wants to use the product. It is important not only to get the performance needed, but also to have a product that a person is comfortable putting on the skin.
