Thriving in the Face of Challenge
The Integrative Science of Human Resilience
This chapter presents an interdisciplinary study on the topic of human resilience, which is defined as the capacity to maintain or regain health and well-being in the face of adversity. The first section reviews why comprehensive understanding of resilience requires a multidisciplinary approach. It summarizes key contributions from different disciplines and domains of inquiry. The second section elaborates the findings and insights from the resilience agenda, briefly sketched in this chapter. These include not only substantive results but also the development of innovative methods for integrating data from diverse psychosocial, experiential, and biological realms. The third section provides a more personal, inside look at the story of the collaboration.
