This chapter reviews diverse deaf identities through the lens of historical perspectives. The focus is on the tenor of the times and the social forces related to selected historical events, specifically the early beginnings, the historical role of deaf schools, religious and social forces, employment aspects, the impact of the eugenics movement, the historical role of entertainment and media, and the Deaf President Now movement. The relationships between these events and the molding of deaf identities are highlighted.
