Moving Restorative Justice Interventions into Domestic Violence Treatment
This chapter traces the traditional conceptualizations of domestic violence and the theories that are at the foundation of nationwide methods for addressing this issue. It examines some key literature about what is currently known about the effectiveness of batterers’ intervention programs (BIP). Principles of restorative justice practice as well as its critique are outlined. An innovative treatment approach — Constructing Circles of Peace (CCP) — is presented that draws on restorative justice principles. This experimental treatment model is currently in operation in Nogales, Arizona, and is being evaluated.
