This chapter reports on the importance of considering people's conceptions of the past, present, and future, along with the intersecting dimensions of feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. It focuses on some more general overarching themes, questions, and issues. In addition, it provides examples within each section for the purpose of illustration, and the discussion should not be viewed as an exhaustive list of all that is relevant within the individual chapters. In general, it is hoped that by studying the past in terms of what is known so far, readers can help define the future in terms of what can be known, while perhaps suggesting some initial steps in getting there from here.
