Going ahead with Transducer Techniques made some sense, but it was not to be. In addition, Solly Angel decided against the whole idea of load cells. He did not yet recognize the hierarchy of parts that would make up the scale. Alexander's “method” provides a mechanical way of breaking down a comprehensive list of requirements into smaller and smaller groups of relatively independent groups of requirements that could be handled one group at a time. On the other hand, Harry Jones captured Angel's attention when he proposed a complete thin-scale design that did away with load cells altogether. His one-page résumé was impressive. He felt very strongly about Lexan, believing, in fact, that it could be a substitute for metal-steel or aluminum—typically used in load cells. Generally, the strain gage packs the discoveries and inventions into one useful device. The next three months were dedicated to bringing the Bangkok study to a successful end, and to sharing its findings with all those who cared to listen: the housing situation in the city was improving.
