This chapter discusses the author's experience in his battle with cancer. It describes his experience in speaking to a class of medical students about life-threatening diseases and suggests that the shock of being told that one has a finite amount of time left comes from having to contemplate a specific date for one's death rather than some vague time far away in the future. The chapter relates the author's 11-year journey with cancer, which started in July 1992.
