Altered states of meditation and consciousness seem like a great mystery for some, implying a change in the personality and consciousness of an individual, leading to an refreshing change in outlook on life. These workings of the mind are not usually probed by science, but it requires a certain amount of self discovery and spirituality. This chapter focuses on compassion, trying to look into a possible neuroscience knowledge of compassion to try to comprehend this matter. It is as may be said to be a scientific form of investigation into the realms of compassion, and the question asks about how inherent it is to human nature. This provides a fresh new spin on this topic, going more into the technical aspect rather than the usual psychological or behavioral science approaches.
