Folic Acid and Neural Tube Defects
This chapter reviews studies on the link between folic acid and neural tube defects. These include clinical observations and early interventions, case-control and cohort studies of folic acid intake, case-control and cohort studies of folic acid blood levels, randomized trials, and studies of genetic markers and metabolic indicators. Policy implications and broader implications for nutritional epidemiology are considered.
