Given the randomness of the universe and the natural tendency to make sense out of things, human beings are inclined to understand — that is, to seek for explanations — in order to comprehend or perhaps, uncover the mysteries and processes of mankind and the world it inhabits. To cultivate this understanding tendency, the author puts forward five principal theories: (1) pointing out a student's position or orientation; (2) endorsing vigorous processing and dynamic discovery stages; (3) employing suitable schemas; (4) conducting manipulative techniques; and (5) fostering an encouraging learning environment. After which, there is an exploration of the means on how the knowledge and availability of technology facilitate educators' usage of these to their benefit. Also, the chapter notes that while technology is created and improved for the enhancement of comprehension, it can lead to detrimental effects when wrongly or excessively utilized.
