Ornette Coleman's Crisis
Music from this record came from a concert conducted at New York University; it proved to be a revealing and important reunion for the musicians. Bassist Charlie Haden had teamed up with Ornette Coleman. Trumpeter Don Cherry also reunited for this occasion. The original three of Ornette's quartet in New York in 1959 were reunited. It was an ensemble whose music moved, delighted, and outraged the New York jazz scene. Joining them that evening were Denny Coleman, a toddler at the time of this gig, and Dewey Redman, an exceptional companion to Coleman.
