C. S. Lewis has gained a reputation as one of the twentieth century’s greatest Christian apologists. This chapter, opens with an overview of Lewis’s life and writings, before focusing on Lewis’s defence and commendation of the Christian faith. The chapter explores Lewis’s accessibility as a writer, his appeal to the imagination, his use of narratives to articulate the rational and imaginative dimensions of faith, and his subtle and creative reworking of leading themes from the Western literary tradition, particularly the writings of Augustine of Hippo and Pascal.
