This chapter begins with discussion on rabbinic myths and mythmaking, tracing its permutations and preservation throughout the ages. It then provides an overview of the studies in the succeeding chapters (6-9) of this book. The studies focus on two main topics: divine strife with the sea; and divine involvement in the destiny of Israel.
