Thought lies behind the power of symbols to communicate understandings and influence actions. Ideas have consequences. Influence of ideologies and communications media on culture. The central role of education, assisted by the arts, in development of people's understandings and outlook; consequent authority of teachers and artists. Religious understandings are rooted in divine revelation that comes from Spirit's empowerment of prophets. Revelation is a continuing process that occurs in humans’ ongoing experience. Relation of official teaching to canonical texts and rituals and critical scholarship. Christian belief in special power of ‘the Spirit of truth’.
