This chapter describes United States-style capitalism. With some differences in detail, similar forms of capitalism can be found throughout the Anglo-Saxon countries. Key themes in this type of capitalism are shareholder value, professional management, application of science, competition, organization, and adaptability. It produces comparative advantages predominantly in professional services and science-driven industries. It is concluded that the applicability of this type of capitalism to the Chinese context is highly limited. The United States is the only country examined in this book with strong comparative advantages in several service sectors.
