Astrophysical lasers on the Fe II lines
This chapter describes a Fe II astrophysical laser. Topics covered include radiative excitation and relaxation of Fe II levels, spectral peculiarities in Fe II, population inversion and amplification in Fe II transitions, radiative cycling with stimulated emission, effective temperature of Lyα from radiative cycle, sources of Lyα radiation pumping of Fe II in the Weigelt blobs, and Andromeda spectral puzzle.
Keywords: Fe II astrophysical laser, radiative excitation, relaxation, radiative cycle
