Incentive Behavior
This chapter discusses the incentive behavior of rats in the context of evaluative, Pavlovian, and instrumental conditioning procedures. These incentive processes constitute a hierarchy: instrumental incentives involve in part processes engaged by Pavlovian incentives that in part involve processes engaged by evaluative incentives. Whether these incentive processes can in fact be fully dissociated structurally is still a matter of debate, and some current issues are discussed in the final section.
