Tour of Duty Ends
Letter 58
29 August 1862
This chapter presents one of Griffin's wartime letters to his wife Leila dated August 29, 1862. This letter is about the end of Griffin's tour of duty. His dilemma over remaining in the Hampton Legion or returning home was resolved when he was defeated in the election. Griffin also told his wife that he had to choose between two offers: prestige and prospective glory with the Hampton Legion or safe reserve duty at home near his family.
