Economic Explanations
This chapter looks at the “economic” explanations for the difference in the distributive policies of the United States and Europe. It argues that purely “economic” explanations fail to provide useful insights on redistribution. It is shown that higher social mobility in the United States is a substitute for redistributive policies.
