Credibility, Institutionalization, and Europeanization
This chapter employs principal-agency theory to assess the autonomy and credibility of Eurostat's decision-making in light of scandals occurring at the highest levels of the organization. It considers the Treaty's surveillance procedure's expansion of EU rules, which empower supranational organizations and encourage member state compliance with collective policies and goals, for their influence in furthering EU integration through institutionalization and Europeanization.
