Abstract: This chapter begins with a discussion of the Chicago World's Fair. It then describes the First World's Parliament of Religions, which was one of the most promising events of the Victorian era. Organizationally, it was a branch of the Chicago World's Fair and constituted one of its many secondary congresses. Webb's participation in the parliament marked his moment of maximum public exposure, while also offering him the opportunity to establish valuable contacts for future work.
