Abstract: Rawls's political conception of the person and his related conception of reasonable pluralism entail a partially comprehensive ideal of personal autonomy. The warrant for that ideal is further supported by showing that it is integral to the virtue of justice and that communitarian claims that autonomy is at odds with a life of integrity are unfounded.
