Here I deal with the foundations of an intention-based semantics–the representational properties of intentional states–by describing a hypothetical pre-linguistic, natural representation system, or NR system, insofar as it underpins the denotative and representational intentions of simple sentences. I provide a description of how the NR system structures the intentions underpinning proto-acts.
