Abstract: An introduction to the most important themes in Peirce's account of rational self-control, which outlines his pragmatism and his theory of truth before explaining his account of the scientific method. There is also a discussion of his commitment to realism. After exploring the main ideas of his theory of signs (semiotic) and his theory of categories, this chapter addresses issues about how to make sense of the development of Peirce's thought.
