This chapter outlines a gradualist account of reality that will emerge more fully in subsequent chapters. It begins with a brief discussion of the limitations of the two-event model. It then suggests that dispositionality provides all we need for an understanding of causal phenomena. Causation as mutual manifestation, gradualism, and the existence of an important parallel between the hyperdispositionality of nonmental, nonsystemic cases, and features considered unique to mental intentionality are discussed.
