This chapter begins with a recap of discussions on dispositionality in the preceding chapters. It then focuses on the acquisition of a second dispositional state that can be fully actual without need of any actual manifestation. Nonmental, vegetative, autonomic systems are assessed to determine what they share and what they lack in comparison with mental systems of an organism. Fodor's arguments against what he calls ‘intentional causation’, and a disposition for addition are described.
